ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. Uncertain period (pre-reform), AH 41-77 / AD 661-697. Pashiz (Copper, 25 mm, 0.86 g, 4 h), Arab-Sasanian type, Kawād-Xwarrah mint. Draped bust facing, wearing an elaborate crown surmounted by two wings; to left, ‘GDE / ʾp̄zwt'’ (‘[may his] glory increase’ in deteriorated Pahlavi); to right, illegible word in Pahlavi. Rev. Head facing with a flame nimbus; to right and left, ‘kwʾt' – GDE’ (‘Kawād-Xwarrah’ in deteriorated Pahlavi). Cf. Gyselen 110 (reverse legends on opposite sides). Pierced and with a crinkled flan, otherwise, very fine.
